How much does stump grinding cost on the North Shore, Auckland?
Most single residential stumps on the North Shore fall between $150 and $350, with very large stumps running $400–$650+. Price depends on stump diameter, root spread and access width. We come out, look at the stump and quote the job before we start — no hourly surprises.
How deep do you grind the stump?
Standard grinding takes the stump 150–300mm below soil level, which is deep enough to top with soil and turf, or to plant over. If you are paving, concreting or building, we grind deeper and excavate the root plate.
Do I need to remove the stump or can I just leave it?
A stump left in the ground blocks any future paving, fencing, turfing or planting in that spot, and it is a trip hazard on a lawn. Grinding it out clears the ground so the next job can go ahead.
Can you get into a small back yard?
Yes. Our machine fits through a standard 900mm gate and is wheeled rather than tracked, so it rolls across your lawn instead of chewing it. Give us a call and we will confirm access before booking.
How long does it take to grind a stump?
A typical suburban stump takes 20–60 minutes including set-up and clean-up. Large pohutukawa, macrocarpa or gum stumps, and hedge lines with a dozen stumps, can run half a day to a full day.
Do tree roots die after stump grinding, or will the tree grow back?
Once the stump and crown are ground out, the remaining roots have no growing point and die off naturally. Species that sucker from roots — such as gum and privet — can throw the odd shoot; mowing or a spot treatment stops them for good.
